PAC Operation

The ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 Political Action Committee is made up of contributors to the Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality (PEOPLE) fund, a voluntary payroll deduction. The PAC is administered by 40 appointed directors representing each Alaska Senate District.

The ASEA PAC meets monthly via teleconference on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 5:15 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The ASEA PAC observes the policies and procedures set out in the ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 Political Action Committee Rules of Operations. This committee publishes legislative bill tracking, documents, analyses and recommendations related to political activity.

Political Action Committee PAC business includes:

  • Coordination of all ASEA political activities related to elections
  • Endorsement of candidates for statewide office without regard for Political party affiliations
  • Financial support for endorsed candidates
  • Fundraising
  • Recommendations to support or oppose legislation

The PAC serves as custodian of PEOPLE contributions and all other PAC funds. Alaska law prohibits the use of monetary union dues money to support state and local political candidates. PAC funds come from ASEA members' voluntary payroll contributions to PEOPLE ( Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality).

To sign up for PEOPLE and become a member of the ASEA PAC, a form authorizing a voluntary PEOPLE payroll deduction must be completed. This form is available from shop stewards, PAC members, ASEA offices, and the ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 website.
