The following resolutions were submitted by the Women's Committee and approved by delegates to the 2004 ASEA Convention.
RESOLUTION NO. 33: WELL CHILD CARE COVERAGE Submitted by: The Women’s Committee WHEREAS, “The Women’s Committee” met and unanimously agreed to request full coverage for “Well Child Care”; and, WHEREAS, such preventive “Well Child Care” assessment and maintenance would substantially reduce the future costs to the Health Trust; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Health Care Plan include full coverage of “Well Child Care” assessment to include but not be limited to screening, and subsequent treatment for developmental, medical, and mental/emotional wellness. RESOLUTION NO. 34: HEALTH CARE SCREENING & MAINTENANCE COVERAGE Submitted by: The Women’s Committee WHEREAS, “The Women’s Committee” met and unanimously agreed that preventive health care issues for women are neither adequately nor equitably addressed especially in detecting health problems early by preventative health care and maintenance; and, WHEREAS, such preventative health care and maintenance would substantially reduce the costs to the Health Trust; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Health Care Plan cover health care screening and maintenance including but not limited to pap tests, mammograms, diabetes testing, colonoscopies, and physician referrals and follow-up care. RESOLUTION NO. 36 (Amended): ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE INCLUSION Submitted by: The Women’s Committee WHEREAS, “The Women’s Committee” met and unanimously agreed that alternative health care has merit; and, WHEREAS, such alternative treatment and care would substantially and ultimately reduce the costs to the Health Trust; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Health Trust covers universally accepted treatments provided under alternative medicine to include but not be limited to massage therapy, acupuncture, vitamin therapy, natural hormonal therapy and light therapy. RESOLUTION NO. 37: REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH COVERAGE Submitted by: The Women’s Committee WHEREAS, “The Women’s Committee” met and unanimously agreed to request full coverage for procedures and treatments relating to reproductive health, which include but are not limited to: birth control, fertility treatment, sexual dysfunction, pre- and post-menopausal procedures, second opinion on hysterectomy recommendation and travel for “at risk pregnancies.” THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Health Care Plan cover these procedures. RESOLUTION NO. 38: PAY EQUITY ISSUES Submitted by: The Women’s Committee WHEREAS, “The Women’s Committee” met and unanimously agreed that the Union address pay equity issues including but not limited to: 1. career training, 2. advancement opportunities, 3. ensure fair distribution of “coveted assignments,” 4. compensation for increased workload due to workforce reduction, 5. ensure “like pay for like job”, and 6. ensure job classes are correctly defined and include all job responsibilities and duties in a member’s position description; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Union and the Contract Negotiating Committee address and make the above issues a priority at the negotiating table. |
