Women's Equality Day August 26 Print E-mail

Women's Equality Day was established by the U.S. Congress in 1971 to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which on August 26, 1920 granted women the right to vote.

Many online resources exist to help share and celebrate this occasion. Most notable is the National Women's History Project (http://nwhp.org/).

"Two-thirds of our bargaining unit members are women," said Business Manager Jim Duncan. "Their contributions to the strength and success of our Union and to the State of Alaska should never be underestimated."
