Below are some of the activities a member of the AFSCME Local 52 Political Action Committee would be drawing on in fulfilling expectations of their committee participation.

Attend monthly teleconferences every third Tuesday of the month at 5:15 p.m. (held weekly during the legislative session)

Disseminate political information to the membership in your Senate District

Help in the endorsement of candidates determined by the Political Action Committee

Be knowledgeable of candidates in your area

Assist in determining the political contribution level to each candidate

Construct/maintain a telephone tree within the Senate District of your members to assure dissemination of information as expeditiously as possible

Help organize members in your Senate District in writing letters to our legislators, and in sending Public Opinion Messages (POMs) through the Legislative Information Offices (LIOs)

Contribute to the success of fundraising activities that are designed to raise political monies

Organize and participate in Voter Registration campaigns to assure members in your area are registered to vote

Organize and participate in Get-Out-The-Vote drives and telephone banks in your area to get people out to the polls to vote

Organize and participate in door-to-door campaigning

Encourage members to become politically active and solicit their participation

Encourage members to contribute to the P.E.O.P.L.E. Program. Authorizations for payroll deduction of P.E.O.P.L.E. contributions should be completed and returned to the Union Headquarters in Anchorage for processing (ASEA/AFSCME Local 52, 1577 C St., Ste. 201, Anchorage, AK 99501). Should a member wish to contribute more than $2 per pay period, the printed amount of "$2.00" should be marked through and the appropriate amount written above, with the member initialing that "mark-through."
