Dear GGU Member:
On April 25, the State House of Representatives passed an amendment to HB 475 that postpones implementation of the new defined contribution retirement plan until July 1, 2007.
This amendment delays for one year the effective date of the new 401k-style individual retirement accounts for new state employees.
ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 asked you the members to communicate support for the amendment to your legislators, and it worked.
The House went further by approving a change to the language of the bill title, a strategic move that requires the Senate to find a two-thirds majority to undo their work.
In order for the one-year extension to pass, HB 475 needs the concurrence of the Senate and not an effort to rewrite it.
Please take the time to contact your senator to express support for Senate concurrence on HB 475. The following link leads to the Political Action portion of the ASEA/AFSCME local 52 website where you can contact your senator directly.
When communicating with your legislators, please remember to use a personal email address for your contact information and to include your full name and address to demonstrate that you are a constituent.
In solidarity,
Jim Duncan
