Candidates for Executive Board and Contract Negotiating Committee,
On June 20, 2006, John Seferian, Judicial Panel Chairperson, AFSCME, AFL-CIO ordered that the March 30, 2006 election of officers and contract negotiating team members will be rerun.
AFSCME International has directed me to assist your election committee the oversight of this election.
Your name appeared on the ballot for the March 30, 2006 Statewide Elections. All prior eligible Candidates will appear on the ballot with the exception of those no longer eligible to hold Union Office or those candidates for which there is only one candidate for the position.
In accordance with Mr. Seferian's decision, candidate statements are to be mailed with the election ballots. The candidate statement you submitted for the March 30, 2006 election will be used unless you submit a revised statement to the Union by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006. Attached is a copy of the Candidate Statement form you must use if you want to revise your previously submitted statement. Please refer to ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 Policy and Procedures 22.00.000.B.8 for futher information regarding the candidate statements.
The timeline for the new election is as follows:
- July 20, 2006 - Deadline for submitting replacement candidate statements
- July 31, 2006 - Ballots will be mailed to members
- August 30, 2006 - All ballots due by 8:30 am
- August 30, 2006 - Election Date (ballots will be counted)
All candidates are permitted to have observers throughout the election process.
ASEA/AFSCME Local 52’s Policy and Procedure Manual also addresses the right of each member to prepare at their expense a mailing to the membership. These guidelines can be found in 22.00.000.C.1-5. In addition Section 1.C of the AFSCME International Election Code States, “Any nominee or announced candidate for elective office shall have the right once prior to the election to have mailed, through the union office but at private expense, campaign literature.”
