Election Committee Updates Election Timeline Print E-mail

Candidates for Executive Board and Contract Negotiating Committee,

In an attempt to include as many ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 members as possible in the upcoming re-run of the Executive Board and CNC Election, the Election Committee has made a decision to push back the upcoming Election Date until October 16th, 2006. That decision was approved by John Seferian, Judicial Panel, AFSCME, AFL-CIO.

The time frame for submitting revised candidate statements remains the same. The statements were due in the Union Headquarters Office by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006.

The timeline for the new election is as follows:

July 20, 2006 - Deadline for submitting replacement candidate statements
September 15, 2006 - Ballots will be mailed to members
October 16, 2006 - All ballots due by 8:30 am, Election Date (ballots will be counted)

All candidates are permitted to have observers throughout the election process.

ASEA/AFSCME Local 52’s Policy and Procedure Manual also addresses the right of each member to prepare at their expense a mailing to the membership. These guidelines can be found in 22.00.000.C.1-5. In addition Section 1.C of the AFSCME International Election Code States, “Any nominee or announced candidate for elective office shall have the right once prior to the election to have mailed, through the union office but at private expense, campaign literature.”

Please contact Skye McRoberts or Mary Ann Ganacias at the ASEA Headquarters in Anchorage if you would like a set of mailing labels prepared and to schedule a time for you or your designees to affix the labels to your material in one of the Union offices.
