Budget Review:
Nadine offered that we need to raise money and awareness at our convention. We have a table at the convention. How about Rosie the riveter pins and other items? Silent auction items?
The convention is March 16-19. March is Women's history month. See BestImpressions.com for ideas. We could have ASEA Local 52 embedded on 1,000 different products.
Toya will look into pins, she's on the "pin committee" and will check union guidelines.
Q: Will the money raised go towards training?
A: The money will go in the budget; we could earmark it toward training.
Motion to spend $1,000 on promotional items and create a committee.
Moved: Barbara
2nd Teresa
Discussion:
Suzan says run it through Jim, especially to sell items.
Jim says union-related items need to get approval and that the expenditure needs to be approved.
Barbara offered that the E board doesn't approve the budget.
Reports:
Nadine wrote a report on the Western Region Women's Conference for Solidarity Update.
Nadine will write thank you letters to Juneau and Anchorage chapter Presidents, and also letters to all other Chapter Presidents telling them how exciting and wonderful the conference was.
Nadine offered that International is looking at itself. They want to change the way dues are figured. They want to figure out how to save money in AFSCME.
Nadine hopes ASEA Local 52 E board sends a letter to McEntee to show support.
Barbara offered that when looking at resolutions we can resolve to support women's issues and AFSCME International.
Jim suggested E board write to both VP's to show our Local 52 strong support. Barb suggested cc'ing McEntee on it.
Resolutions:
What should WIC support?
What do we want to tell them to do? (WIC, Family Rights, Women's Rights)
December 27th is the latest postmark for resolutions.
Jim offered that resolutions can be introduced at the convention floor, but it takes 2/3 vote to get it in. Much easier to get resolutions in by the December deadline.
Pink Link:
Teresa agrees to putting teleconference minutes, quarterly reports to E board, Solidarity Update articles, and photos on the website.
Jim suggested we submit what we want to Reber and cc him (Jim).
Nadine will send the second survey to Reber and Jim tonight.
New Business
Millie Twitchell and Lin Davis
Two names to put forward to Gordon Glaser for committee membership.
Face-to-Face before convention:
We're having a table for news and fundraising; do we all want to meet one day early for a face-to-face? Additional expenses would be per diem and one night's stay. Make arrangements through Melanie, who makes travel arrangements for us. Jim offered there will be a chapter officer meeting possibly Wednesday before the convention. The E board would not have to attend, so none of us would miss our face-to-face.
Motion to meet Wednesday, March 15th for a Face-to-Face meeting in Anchorage.
