A state hiring freeze has been lifted following predictions of a budget surplus, according to a press release from the governor's office.
The hiring freeze was instituted by the governor on Aug. 8 after an interruption in North Slope oil production caused worries of reduced income to the state.
"The union is pleased to see that the administration has reconsidered this action," said Business Manager Jim Duncan. "A hiring freeze should be the last resort when facing obstacles to serving all Alaskans."
