ASEA Wins Court Case for Corrections Employee Print E-mail

Alaska Superior Court Judge Craig Stowers has ordered the implementation of an arbitration decision that found the State of Alaska had improperly terminated an ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 member in the Department of Corrections.

In his ruling on Tuesday, February 6, Judge Stowers sided with ASEA over arguments by the state that an arbitrator had erred in reinstating the employee. The judge agreed with ASEA that the arbitrator had properly reviewed the case and had issued a well-reasoned and thoughtful decision.

The ASEA member was pleased with the outcome, saying, "It's been a long road and ASEA was there for me at every step in the process. I just couldn't have done this without ASEA's help. I can't wait to get back to work and get my life back on track."
