Probation and parole officers working for the State of Alaska will soon receive a ballot from the Alaska Labor Relations Agency to select a bargaining unit representative. ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 currently represents state probation and parole officers and is defending the value and service it provides to these employees from a challenge by the Alaska Correctional Officers Association.
Fellow GGU members have joined ASEA staff to meet with probation and parole officers at worksite meetings to communicate the direct consequences of the election--highlighting the personal expense, contractual shortcomings and health benefit compromises they face by changing representatives.
ASEA believes that full disclosure by both sides in this election will enable probation and parole officers to make an educated decision. The following documents from ASEA have been distributed to probation officers to provide full and objective information in this important election.
