Business Manager Addresses Partisan E-mails Print E-mail

Dear Union Leader,

It has come to my attention that many of you may have received a partisan political e-mail from Ray Metcalfe as a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

I am not sure how Mr. Metcalfe obtained your e-mail address but assume he may have copied the addresses of the ASEA leadership from our website. Therefore, I am sending this message to the Executive Board, Chapter Officers, Stewards, PAC Directors and all committee members who are listed on the website.

It is inappropriate for any political candidate to send partisan political e-mails to state equipment, including fax machines, telephones, computers, or copiers. If you have received such a message you may respond that Alaska law forbids your use of state equipment for partisan political purposes and ask that the sender not send you further messages concerning campaign purposes or activities. I have posted on our website a February 29, 2008 e-mail from Commissioner Kreitzer to all state employees regarding partisan political e-mails.

I did e-mail a response to Mr. Metcalfe regarding his message and informed his it was inappropriate for him to mail partisan political messages to state equipment. I also responded to several other points he made in his e-mail.

You may view my response and Commissioner Kreitzer’s message to all employees by going to our website at http://www.afscmelocal52.org/.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Jim
