Juneau Chapter Announces Scholarship Winners |

The Juneau Chapter of ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 has awarded two educational scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Juneau Chapter is made up of 1,800 state employees—nearly one-quarter of the 8,400 in the General Government Unit statewide who are represented by ASEA/AFSCME Local 52. The Juneau Chapter contributes approximately 12% of its yearly budget to this annual scholarship program for members and their children.
Clarissa Susan was awarded a $1,250 scholarship for the child of a Juneau Chapter member enrolled and in good standing in a 4-year degree program at an accredited university. Clarissa has worked for the Alaska Department of Labor and also for the City and Borough of Juneau in the Engineering Department, where she was exposed to architecture in the workplace. Her school of choice is Washington State University, and she plans to study architecture.
Sara Manning was awarded a $1,250 scholarship for a Juneau Chapter member enrolled in a 4-year degree program at an accredited university. She studied engineering at the University of Wollongong in Australia during the 2007/2008 academic year, and will be attending Portland State University during the 2008/2009 academic year. During high school she began working for the Department of Environmental Conservation and still works there during summer breaks from university. She plans to work for the state after receiving her degree.
