Letter of Agreement Adopts Service Steps Improving Salary Progression Print E-mail

Dear GGU Member,

On behalf of ASEA/AFSCME Local 52, I have signed a Letter of Agreement with the State of Alaska that greatly improves each member's progression in salary after they reach Step G of the salary schedule.

The Letter of Agreement, effective January 1, 2009, changes the period of time a member has to wait between Steps K and L and Steps L and M before receiving a step increase and provides that a member will receive a Service Step increase of 3.75% every 2 years after Step M if they are member of the GGU. The Letter of Agreement will be posted on the Union website later today. The chart below illustrates the changes made by the Letter of Agreement:

 Current Contract

 Letter of Agreement

 Step G to J—2 years

 Step G to J—2 years

 Step J to K—2 years

 Step J to K—2 years

 Step K to L—5 years

 Step K to L—2 years

 Step L to M—4 years

 Step L to M—2 years

 After Step M—No additional steps

After Step M—3.75% step increase every 2 years

This provision will be of immediate benefit to many of our members in Steps K, L, and M of the salary schedule. All members will benefit from this provision as they progress through the salary schedule. This e-mail supplements the e-mail notice that members in Steps K, L, and M received yesterday.

This provision was extended to the GGU members based on a commitment in a September 5, 2007 letter to me from Commissioner of Administration Kreitzer. You can view the letter and related correspondence by clicking on the following link: http://www.afscmelocal52.org/content/view/481/485/

I am pleased that the State has agreed to extend this important benefit to our GGU members. At this time ASEA and PSEA (Public Safety Employees Association) are the only Unions who have this provision in their collective bargaining agreements.

If you have any questions about the Letter of Agreement please contact an ASEA business agent or me.

Sincerely,

Jim Duncan
