|
A report issued by an AFSCME industrial hygienist following her visit to a Juneau worksite indicates the state must take additional steps to fulfill its general duty clause.
C. Denise Bland Bowles, AFSCME International's Industrial Hygienist, conducted an environmental building audit/inspection on May 12-13, 2008 in the Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development building at 1111 W. 8th Street. The building was the subject of numerous environmental complaints by state employees.
The state took measures to improve conditions at the building after meetings between ASEA and the Dept. of Administration in response to a grievance filed by ASEA on behalf of members experiencing a range of symptoms, including chronic respiratory and skin conditions.
Business Manager Jim Duncan will meet with the Administrative Services Director Guy Bell to discuss the AFSCME report and determine what steps the state will take to resolve outstanding worksite issues.
