1. The CNC met with the State of Alaska for the third 2-day contract negotiating session on November 4-5, in Anchorage.
2. The CNC submitted a wage proposal to the State. Our proposal provides for a 6% increase in wages in year one, and 4% plus CPI (Anchorage Consumer Price Index) increase in each of year two and year three. The state has indicated that they are not ready to submit a wage proposal “until next year” (January or February 2010).
3. The State submitted a proposal on Article 19 (Health and Security) gutting our existing language that determines the employers health insurance contribution to our members. Under their proposal they would be able to manipulate the formula which determines the State’s monthly health insurance contribution to our members to meet the State’s financial objective of reduced employer cost. This could result in an increase in our employee contribution to Health Insurance which is not acceptable.
4. The next negotiation session is scheduled for November 17-18, in Juneau.
5. Membership involvement and support is vital to successful contract negotiations. Upcoming worksite meeting schedules will be announced soon and posted on bulletin boards..
