ASEA/AFSCME Local 52 Women's Issues Committee
Executive Board Report January 2009

Dear Executive Board Members, ASEA Staff, Tam Tocher, and attendees;

The Women's Issues Committee's childcare survey has generated interest in the results. Included in the list of interested persons and agencies is Senator Mark Begich, Representative Kertulla, and a large and diverse group of volunteers in Juneau who are working together towards childcare cost, location, and business models for the providers.

In Juneau, conversations with legislators and their staff and DOL&WD WIA officials, has brought to light the extent of this problem statewide and everyone's willingness to work towards a solution.

Our union seat at this table could help us to effect a positive solution statewide, with positive press, which is in support of our strategic plan. We would like your acknowledgement and support of this effort and information sharing.

ASEA By-Laws states that the committee will meet on the last Wednesday of every month. We would like the opportunity to meet on a different night.
