Bargaining Update #14
June 1, 2004

1. The CNC met with state negotiators for a work session May 26-27 in Juneau.

2. At the work session we clarified the areas of contention that remain between the Union and the state. We hope this approach will make our session with a federal mediator more productive.

3. We have not signed any additional TAs. The state’s proposals on all open articles are still the same as they were on March 12. This means, among other things, that the state is still proposing a merit freeze in year one and is refusing to put a dollar figure on its share of health contributions.

4. We will meet on June 3-4 with a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).

5. It is just as important as ever that we send the state a strong message that ASEA members are firm in their belief that we deserve a fair contract. A strong strike vote is the best way to send that message. Remember, if you don’t vote, it counts as a “no” vote. Please vote yes on BOTH strike vote questions as we need to send a message to both the administration and the legislature that we will demand fair treatment. Don’t delay, ballots are due June 21.
