HB 11 - RIP FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES/TEACHERS
What it Says:
"An Act relating to retirement incentives for members of the defined benefit retirement plan of the teachers' retirement system and the defined benefit retirement plan of the Public Employees' Retirement System of Alaska; and providing for an effective date."
What it Does:
HB 11 authorizes a program offering a 3-year retirement credit to public employees vested in a defined benefit retirement system, aged 50 years and older, and with at least 20 years of service (17 for peace officer or firefighter) as an incentive to retire. The retirement credit is granted only when a savings will be realized by the state. A penalty is assigned if the employee is reenrolled in the pension system. Legislative intent directs positions vacated under this program be deleted or left vacant, and that participating agencies adopt a hiring freeze.
