Good Start to the Year: US Supreme Court WIN

Dear ASEA Member,

This is a big year for ASEA and we couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2024. I am pleased to share that last week, the U.S. Supreme Court put an end to our four-year legal battle involving the State’s attempt to interject itself in your relationship with your union and right to collectively bargain for your wages, benefits, and working conditions.

While it’s a relief this effort on the part of the governor’s administration has finally been put to rest, we can’t help reflecting on the price Alaskans paid to reach this conclusion. Alaska State Employees continue to face staggering challenges at work which are being complicated by understaffing, underfunding, neglect, and low morale.

With our Biennial Convention around the corner (March 12-13 & 15-17), a bill to reinstate defined benefit pension retirement on the table (SB88), and contract negotiations for State GGU employees later this year, we have ample opportunities to come together and make meaningful changes for Alaskans working for Alaska.

I am proud of you, our union members, of our ASEA leaders, staff, and entire ASEA/AFSCME team.
