Dear DOT ASEA Member,

In his initial FY 2018 State of Alaska Operating Budget Governor Walker had proposed to privatize the entire DOT Design function by the close of FY 2019. The Union immediately filed a grievance for violating the provisions of Article 13 of our Collective Bargaining Agreement. As a result the Administration agreed to not proceed with the overall privatization and to not increase privatization of the design functions during FY 2018. On January 27, 2017 the Union and the Administration entered into Letter of Grievance Resolution (LGR) 17-G-128 stating this agreement.

Soon after the beginning of FY 2018 I received reports from members that contrary to the LGR the Administration was entering into new contracts and continuing to increase the amount of projects privatized. On August 4, 2017 and again on September 27, 2017 I requested information from the Administration so we could evaluate if they were complying with the LGR. As a result of a review of the information provided we believe that the Administration is not fully complying with the LGR.

Therefore, on November 3, 2017, the Union filed a grievance against the Administration for violating the terms of the LGR. You can view the LGR and the recently filed grievance by clicking on the following link:
