ASEA received confirmation from the State of Alaska that GGU members will receive a 5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase, effective July 1, 2024. The COLA increase is the maximum percentage that was negotiated, by the members, for the members, during the last collective bargaining negotiations in 2021 and 2022. The COLA increase was subject to the consumer price index (CPI) at the end 2022, which was at 5.4%.

This was possible thanks to the commitment and dedication of your Contract Negotiations Committee (CNC) and all GGU members showing up to work together for a better contract. 

ASEA continues to do the work necessary to make State Employees across Alaska whole in our current economy. Our collective power enables us to protect and improve better pay and benefits for all GGU members.  At the time of this negotiation, ASEA membership was close to 80%. Future success will always depend on maintaining and improving our strength of numbers. Negotiators secure a stronger collective bargaining agreement (CBA) because of a stronger ASEA.

Anticipated GGU CNC Timeline for 2025 – 2028 Negotiations

• The current CBA will expire on June 30, 2025.
• The GGU CNC nominations and election process will begin in early 2024 (next year).
• Elected GGU CNC members will meet in the summer or fall of 2024 to put their timeline and plan together.
• The GGU CNC may solicit ideas and interest from ASEA members via surveys, worksite meetings, emails, and text alerts.
• Negotiations will likely begin in the fall of 2024.
• Once a tentative agreement (TA) is reached, it will go to the membership for a ratification vote.
• If ratified, the TA will go in front of the Legislature to be included in the operating budget (spring of 2025).
• If successful, the contract will be adopted and effective July 1, 2025.
